Launch 2nd Grade ‘Project Swell’ Environmental Education Program

 

What: A press conference to announce the launch of Project SWELL’s (Stewardship: Water Education for Lifelong Leadership) 2nd grade curriculum, which focuses on Pebbles, Sand and Silt. Project SWELL is an interactive, science-based water quality and pollution prevention curricula tailored for local schools to promote environmental stewardship. Project SWELL is circulated in 124 San Diego City Schools and will eventually reach 140,000 students

Who: Mayor Jerry Sanders, SDUSD School Bard Vice President Shelia Jackson, Port Commissioner Robert J. (Rocky) Spane, San Diego Coastkeeper Executive Director Bruce Reznik, and a host of environmental and community leaders.
Why: With the launch of the 2nd grade unit, which will go into full rotation in September, Project SWELL will be reaching over 42,000 elementary school students annually in San Diego City Schools, and will continue to educate San Diego’s schoolchildren about our local watersheds while also fostering a sense of stewardship in these future leaders.
